I always found destroying the lava sources a bit anti-climactic.
It’s just a bunch of COG running around like any other cave plus a turret or two around the legs.
Maybe a special, physically larger, unit protecting the lava sources?
Or somehow make them more of an interesting challenge rather than just a mob of COG units.
Some sort of boss is planned for the final volcano, however there is nothing planned for the lavasources…. yet.
We have plans for more enemy types (flying, spider-like, etc.) and the same goes for lava sources. Instead of having the same laser drill in each lava source, the plan is to have a different structure in each that requires a different strategy to destroy it.

Late but I agree, I was able to run straight through laser drill 3 and 4 and ignore cogs and just heal/armor up.
We are currently working on narration and level design that better defines what is happening at the end of each area. Stuff should get way more interesting.
This is extra interesting. Having bosses sure is cool, but having story elements related to them ? Even better.
