Sensor module#1020

When cogs approach your drill, it will automaticaly deploy turrets

Sounds like there would be a few issues with it. The idea isn’t bad in itself, tho.
First off, why would you not simply leave your turrets out ? That’s what they’re for. Turning them on or off like this doesn’t sound like it would change much things. There’s also the issue of core slots, but I guess this would work just like a controller that tries to “deploy all”.
I’m not opposed to the idea in itself, I just think there are ways to do this that would be much more interesting than slapping a module somewhere and leave it do it’s job.
How I think it should be done is by using a scanner module. We know there’s a scanner/antannea module planned, which is supposed to detect ores from far away and display them on your HUD/map, but I also assume that’s how you’ll see the ship icons on your HUD in the future, rather than them always being there. Let’s say this module also sees COGs from a distance, shows them to you on your HUD/map, and maybe even has a warning when they’re close. That would already be pretty neat, but let’s take it one step further and talk about your idea : you could build a new device, called something like “Scanner-turret link”, which you can place anywhere in your ship. This device, when turned on, will do exactly what you described, as long as at least one scanner module is deployed, but by having it as a device, it allows to set custom settings on what range triggers it, maybe even what turrets it should open, etc. And if we really want to go crazy, the device could be more generally a “Scanner-module link”, which can control any module group by turning on/off certain modules whenever COGs approach. So you could setup links in a way that whenever COGs approach, all research/refinery modules close, only one production module remains opened, and all turrets and powerplants deploy. Honestly, it even sounds like this could be done much simpler by having it as a custom controller, just set chat modules you want on/off and set the range trigger.

This whole idea sounds kinda similar to #339, in a way.

Like the idea! Something like that has been planned for a long time. Even for COG drillships. This would allow more dynamic in the game for both Player and NPC encounters.
