A coal-fired power station could stand above each of the lasers. Cogs and coal spawn there. After the laser has been destroyed, the power plant must also get destroyed. Power plants can consist of modules. If you break some of these, it results a collapse of the building.

I would like to see some Early Industrial Age buildings with Steampunk Flair. Maybe the COGs have some sort of Underground COGopolis.
