I think the game would be better if it was way harder to aquire a drillship, it would make it much more rewarding to finally be a captian of your own ship.
The devs have mentioned multiple times how they want to make getting your first drillship a real milestone, something that takes some time. This will be tied in with the story.
I’ll mark it as “in review” as it was discussed a long time ago, but plans may have changed today. So it is technically on the table
It did feel a bit anticlimactic getting your first drillship
But for me it was quit intense in my hard play through because I had to destroy enough models to put my core in
And trust me going underground with a drill ship with less than 30 seconds left is intense

Out of all ideas on this Nolt, I am the most surprised that this is still in review. Even with quests turned off in a game, I am able to take a cog drillship within 3-5 minutes depending on their chosen landing sites. It merely consists of taking out the cogs, their spawn tubes, and then pickaxing or shooting all modules I need to. It feels especially underwhelming that you can already craft a COG’S drillship core seconds after arriving, and feels unrealistic in terms of discovering the existence of Cogs. This suggestion could also lead to a better way of introducing players to blast shelters, encouraging them to wander more rather than hide in their ships four minutes before a blast.
