Okay hear me out. I know the discussion of Power armor has been a thing for a long time now (see suggestion 36). but i have an idea to make it OVERPOWERED but also faily balanced.
So the principle of PA is quite simple, you get it and you become god. but this version has some quirks. In my opinion i think it should function a little similair like it did in FALLOUT 4. where the armor is an suit you get into and not just equip it like armor. and you start out with a chassis and can gradually upgrade it with better and better materials. so here is my little consept on how it would work in Volcanoids to keep it simple.
The Power Armor was a consept by the militairy of Adrenos to fight the cogs. (Post first eruption) but they were eliminated by the cogs before it could ever be built. but they hid the project files, nicknamed “Project Battle Armor - DeletaCog MK. |”
Fast forward to when you arrive the Capitan informs you that he has heard rumors of an old abandonded project in a secret militairy base on the island. you fight cogs at the entrance but when you go inside you are revelaled to a folder containint the blueprints and projectfiles for the DeletaCog Power Armor. you go back and show cap and continue with the story. then when you destroy your first drillship for the drillhead parts, cap calls you and says he’s made a prototype of the DeletaCog Armor (the base) which is when you obtain it.
So the Volcanoids Power Armor (VPA) will start out and given to you as early as right before you fight the first lazer. has 2x much hp as Titanium armor (BASE - NO Armor attachment) and deals around 1.5-2x more melee damage as a pickaxe hit with its fists alone (can be strengthened some) and gains a +10 damage boost to all weapons when it uses them. It had Module slots to incleare various parts of its armor. (Like a grid system with upgrades similair to ghost runner etc) for like more melee damage or more health. The upgrade gridd can be increased in size by upgrading its “Core” like you do with the drillship, (Maybe the base stats can get increased too?) And for armor attachments im thinking something along the lines of you can get copper, iron, titanium, cog and “Machine” (tank and drones) Plating. and here is what i think the different platings will do (FULL SET):
The armor plating consists of pieces like, Left/Right Foot, Left/right Arm, Chest/Torso, Head and each piece deals some version of the full set, like a piece has +5% Armor toughness etc.
And here is the biggest perk of the armor. being able to survive a vulcano eruption while inside it! but downside all armor attachments and health gets reduced. all armor attachments gets destroyed and the armor’s health gets drained to 0. making it really heavy to move around. and you need to take it back to the drillship to repair it.
In the armor itself you gain a +10% movement speed and heavy weapons are now just moving around normally, so the movement debuff is there but you dont lose anything.

The Workbench
The drillship module would work like an external work station it takes up 3 spots and cal only be placed on the sides (obviously) and on the workbench you can make armor attachments, upgrades etc. and you can either repair the armor manually or make the workbench do it for you at the cost of Power.
The Armor runs on Coal or Oil (100% more efficent than regular coal) but you cannot carry Oil and it can only be refueled by the workstation. Oil is made by , Coal and sulfur powder (idfk im just making up a recipie) which needs to be made in another module.
The Liquid Refinery
the liquid refinery is pretty simple, you have a special type of mining drone to suck up liquids (like lava, water or oil or something else). and in the Liquid refinery you can make certian liquids to aid you, like coolant to make the drillship use coal more efficiently or Flamethrower ammo (if flamethrowers gets to be a thing but i wont talk about it here lmfao)
ofc you can also use the liquids as a stand alone liquid and not made into something else, like the oil can be used to power the armor
there can be a lot of uses but we need more ideas as a single person thats hard.
And thats my Consept for Volcanoids Power Armor. it Works well and is fairly balanced i’d say. if there are any buffs or nerfs that could be implemented, let me know!
