Non-story survival mode of the game#157

(perhaps this is best done post launch as a DLC)

But a pure/genuine survival mode, some features to consider in such a game mode:
Permanent structures (which can go underground but don’t move during eruptions) - drill ‘docks’, construction/maintenance/refining/research/defence buildings somewhat equivelant to current drill modules, etc (but inline more with a base of operations rather than full blown player city type of thing)
Periodic COG raids - on drill ship and permanent structures
Difficulty increases gradually with time - raids get harder, eruptions become more frequent (to a game defined minimum)
Optional perma-death
Lava barricades to allow the possibility for ‘protected’ buildings to stay above ground during an eruption
Eruption timer is not as precise, only shows a smaller window of time that the eruption will occur (offset by buildings/building modules which can extend the known eruption timer precision for more of a warning about the upcoming eruption)

I love this idea only would change the type of eruptions. If they get harder and faster over time it would make it hard for new players to the surver to join. I would make the eruption more of a random number generator from 15 to 30 min timer and then make lava flows and fissures that open at random locations that could cause some damage to bases and will need to be cooled / filled

Maybe even leach some ideas from last oasis as we travel and hunt for new valcano to find where the cogs cogs from

well… they came from somewhere… and you live on an island that is part of something bigger… that game-mode could well be an empire founded COG hunt across the continent (or at least the huge geo-active part)..

lovely idea, difficulty ramp could be based on heat (the more effective your attack the more COGs retaliate) with some drillships dedicated to hunting you..

That could well be a drill-war (DLC?), with COGs reclaiming areas and rebuilding lazers and other holding points, and you with others (co-op, each on a drillship?) trying to push them back..

…such a mode could be a timed one (how long you can survive) or a boss, as a heavily defended area - the only landings available are far, 4 flagships guarding it, big turrets and a fortress hiding acess to their “something” big boss factory / power core..

It is still in beta so this could be part of the release rather than a DLC that is post-release.

this would be such a great idea! this would also allow for another reason to keep playing. instead of just beating the game and being finished, this could allow for a good online PVP survival similar to rust, or maybe just a “tower defense” survival game where you have a (better imo) reason to keep upgrading.. think 7 days to die maybe?

If you turn off quests. There will still be a story in place but it’s optional and you won’t have the captain screaming at you to accept his quests. Shortly: This is already in the game.
