Batteries#12

I’m thinking about actual, big old batteries that you could place around the interior of your ship.
They would increase the maximum energy of the ship. No influence on the balance, no negative or positive input. They would just add to the maximum capacity of the ship, that’s it.
There could be multiple tiers, with increased energy storage. Something like a tier 1 would be 2×2 and would hold 50, tier 2 would be 3×3 and would hold 100, and T3 would be 4×4 and hold 150 or 200. (For reference, a panel or a small display is a 1×1 device.)
These are example numbers, but you see the point.
(They could also explode when destroyed, with the power of the explosion being higher the more energy there was stored inside of it…)
With that, I also think it might be good to nerf the core max energy. Right now, I feel like batteries are not needed at all. But with them, you could store massive amounts of energy, if you know your setup takes way too much power, or if you just want to run everything and powerplants take too much core slots.

I also thought of this because IF in the future, travelling underground consumes energy, having more batteries will be a good way to push back the limit of how much you have to surface to fill energy back up.

?

The question is… do you make them traditional electrical batteries… or do you make them Kinetic Clockwork winding batteries? More chances to use gears, springs, and other widgets with a Kinetic Battery.

This is a great idea but I think it should have three modes not just boost energy capacity Modes: 1. Share energy with drillship (just increase the amount of energy stored in ship) 2. Share when drillship doesn’t have energy, it will also give you custom information like: “Ship is out of energy, productions modules get closed and only turrets stay open, energy will remain for (energy use per second ÷ amount of energy stored in batteries) 3. Don’t share, you will have to manually turn on sharing power if you want have the special supply eventually if you wouldn’t be able to go up or when the PvP appear and we would be able to fight between drillships this will be uselfull for some stealth gameplay. (Also add the controller like for hiding modules but for unlocking batteries).

Not sure if those modes would be specifically useful. What advantage would there be in sharing energy only when the ship is out, rather than simply increasing the max capacity ? It’s the same thing. I do see a use for sharing only on command tho, so that on specific raids you could close your power production modules, and have all offensive/defensive stuff out, because you’d have a battery army giving you all the energy you need. But even then, that can also be done with just increasing the max capacity.

I think the battery module would mean that you could technically choose (albeit there should be a significant material cost) to make your drillship geothermal powered. It would just have the effect of increasing the maximum capacity of the drillship.

battery modules wouldn’t work at all. They have to be devices in order to work. How would a battery module work ? Would it lose all its stored energy when closing ? And that would make them especially useless for geothermal energy, since you wouldn’t have anymore than the basic capacity while traveling underground.

Although yes, with batteries as described in this post, that is to say devices, working only on geothermal energy could be viable. Although you would need many, many batteries…

Nice buffer setup - for super steampunk style could be a kinetic engine of some sort like stored hydraulic pressure or steam / heat even a wound clock spring to overcome the common battery.
