Control bracer shows when everyone is inside the ship#1121

P

Since the release of the bracer I’ve thought of one small add on that could be added to. For coop gameplay have a set of lights on the bracer that turn on and off when a specific player is either inside of the drillship or outside of it. It would make it easier to know that all players are in the drillship so they can head underground without leaving anyone behind.

Mmmh. Interesting one, I like it - although I have an idea on how to make it work.
A set of lights just isn’t possible. It would make no sense for singleplayer, and there would be too many to know which is who. (Remember that the limit of 4 players is planned to greatly increase.)

Instead, there’s a way to do this without changing anything on the model. Simply have the “safe” light, the one that turns green when you’re in a safe place from the eruption, change color if everyone is in the ship. For example, blue or something. That way, green means YOU’re safe, and blue means EVERYONE is in the ship. Doesn’t change anything for singleplayer players who will never even see it go blue, and doesn’t resquire any change to the model.

Changed the title from "New Addition to coop gameplay" to "Control bracer shows when everyone is inside the ship"

My suggestion. No names, just four small lights for each player, inactive are simply “deleted”. Each player corresponds to one light. All four lights are lit, you can drill down. As well as manual switch, as in “I’m too far, in bunker, go down without me”.

Yes, that was the original suggestion.
I didn’t think about the number of lights changing to accomodate for how many players there are - it sounds weird, but it works.
As for the manual switch, that sounds good too. I didn’t think of a way to indicate safety of members outside the ship. Perhaps have it blue if everyone is in the ship, and purple if everyone is either in the ship OR in a blast shelter ?

Nah. Just make them uniform orange, or yellow. If you are SAFE, either in ship or manually, they light up. If you are NOT safe - they don’t light up. And they light up separetly. Light per player. Just have to be bright enough to be seen against whatever armor you have.

I think it would be good to have a distinction between “inside the ship” and just “safe”.
As for the separate lights - I disagree, but already explained how I’d prefer things above.

Seems way too complicated for “steampunk”. Make it simple. Lights up one light per player, no names, can be toggled to safe(I am safe in blast shelter, you can drill down in the ship) manually, single color for all. Yours would be our industrial age, where each player could be tracked by ship individually, and could be distinguished between “in” or “outside”, as well as different color lights. I mean you can pick any color, but it must be single for a given player hand. One player has red lights, another orange or yellow.

I don’t think it’s really that out-of-range, especially for a steampunk world which virtually has island-wide instant wifi connection for live video broadcast (even 2000m underground, inside an active volcano !)

Live video broadcast or indestructable periscope? Granted, why would you be able to see the periscope out of your arm when not in ship I have no idea. Given that my ship could be protected, or me just having to send it underground every time I would gladly not have the option of remote periscope…

Yeah, the remote periscope was a weird change. I’m not opposed to the idea, but it makes it feel weird to have itt without needing an upgrade or a specific device for it.

makes sense
