Spread out ship upgrades#1095

?

I just finished my first playthrough with a friend and every time we got to a point where we could make the next tier of production module, immediately we also could make the next everything else. This led to each time parking and crafting all the schematics, module upgrades, and ship upgrades which meant the gameplay faltered as we crafted. Or I crafted really, because while doing this there really isn’t anything for a second person to do. We had to be on the surface to convert the intel necessary and then wait while things crafted very slowly. Due to the massive amount of conversions I had to do manually we couldn’t queue things up, go farm resources, and come back to upgrades being done. And since we got battered if we stayed in the new area we were at we had to go back to the previous area to safely craft where we didn’t really need resources from aside from maybe coal. The last one took me over 2 hours of just crafting/converting things. As a suggestion, spread out the upgrades. Have the tutorial point the player at a production ship of the appropriate tier. Have that drop the parts necessary to upgrade production only. Then have further quests go after a research and then refinery ship. Have the command ship drop stuff for drill ship upgrades like tracks, hull, drill. Without the tutorial people could still target what they want to upgrade but people following the tutorial wouldn’t kill one ship and then park for extended periods to mass upgrade everything all in one go.

Changed the title from "System/ship upgrades" to "Spread out ship upgrades"

The thing is, I don’t think there is a way to spread out upgrades. T2 ships are supposed to have all T2 upgrades, it just makes sense.

Something else that could be done is you need more things to research and make them slower. 1 broken drill should not be all you need to upgrade the ship. So maybe you need a ton of destroyed parts to finally learn how to make the new head or new tracks.
